Is your GE Opal Ice Maker not making ice? When your ice maker stops working, it can be frustrating! Especially if you already threw out the user manual! In our GE Opal ice maker troubleshooting guide, we can help you fix problems and reset your opal ice maker!

What To Do When Opal Ice Maker Not Turning ON?

Here are a few things that you can do when your GE Opal maker is not turning on:

  • Check that the power supply is working. Change sockets to be sure that they are performing.
  • Is the power supply wire-free of defects? Cuts? Breakages?
  • Try to force restart the ice maker by pressing and holding the power button for 5 seconds.
  • Or, you can use the Opal app to reset the On/Off schedule.
  • Try cleaning mode (usually a switch on the back of the machine).
  • Try a manual reset (see below).

Why Is My GE Opal Ice Maker Turning OFF By Itself?

If your GE Opal Ice Maker turns off automatically or randomly, it could be for any of the following reasons:

  • Do you have the Opal smart app set up? Sometimes, there’s an off/on schedule in the app. Check, and if there’s one, delete it.
  • Is your ice bin full? Most GE Opal ice makers have a sensor that turns off ice-making if the container is full.
  • Is the ice bin seated correctly? You should hear a gentle clicking when you install the ice bin. When the ice bin is not installed correctly, the Opal ice maker shuts off automatically.
  • When was the last time that you cleaned your ice maker? Cleaning your ice maker ensures that it works better and faster for years. You can learn how to clean your opal ice maker in our guide. Be sure to do a manual cleaning, even if you have a fancy self-cleaning ice maker.

My Opal Ice Maker Lights Aren’t Working – What To Do?

If the interior lights on your Opal Ice Maker stop working, here’s what to do to fix the problem:

  • If you have an Opal 1.0 Nugget Ice Maker: Press and hold the front round button for 3 seconds. Doing so switches the machine between Day Mode and Night Mode.
  • If you have an Opal 2.0 Nugget Ice Maker: There are three modes – ON/Dim/OFF. Press the light button to switch to your preferred mode.

Why Is My GE Opal Ice Maker Not Making Ice?

There are many reasons why your Opal Ice Maker may stop making ice. For example, it could have a blockage, a power supply problem, or it may not have enough water in the reservoir. Here are some simple solutions that you can try:

  • Make sure that the ice basket is fully seated in the slot. The GE Ice maker won’t make any ice if it is not.
  • If you have a self-cleaning ice maker, check that it is not in cleaning mode. If it is in cleaning mode, the ice maker won’t make ice until it completes the cleaning cycle. Usually, when the display ring around the round button on the front of the Opal Ice Maker is solid yellow or flashing yellow, the ice maker is in cleaning mode.
  • Is there enough water in the reservoir? The GE Ice Maker won’t make ice when the water level is low. Refill the reservoir if it is low on water. Usually, your GE opal ice maker says to add water.
  • If nothing works, try a manual reset (see below)
