Why Is My Frigidaire Countertop Ice Maker Not Making Ice?

There are a few reasons why your Frigidaire countertop ice maker may not be making ice. For example,

  • There could be a problem with the power supply or power outlet.

If there is a problem with the power supply, the ice maker cannot work. Check the power cord and power outlet to make sure that they are functional and without defects.

  • There might not be enough water in the reservoir.

Your ice maker needs water to make ice. If the reservoir of your Frigidaire ice maker is empty, then it cannot make ice cubes. Check to see if the water reservoir is empty. If it is empty, refill it.

  • Something could be blocking the water supply line/filters.

If your ice maker has the right amount of water but it’s not making ice, there could be a blockage. Debris and mineral build-up in the water supply line could block the supply pump. Jams happen over time if you don’t clean your ice maker often.

  • Ice could freeze the supply line.

Ice can also block your ice maker’s water supply line. In this case, melt the ice. Unplug the ice maker and let it sit in a warm room for several hours.

  • The ice basket may be full.

Some ice makers have a sensor that detects when the ice bin is full or empty. If it is full, the sensor turns off the ice maker. So, the ice maker stops making ice cubes.

Some self-cleaning ice makers stop producing ice when they are in cleaning mode. Always check to verify which mode your ice maker is in.

There are usually two reasons why your Frigidaire countertop ice maker is leaking water: a damaged water inlet valve or a problem with the water filter.

If it leaks water because of the Water Inlet Valve:

Check that all the attachments to the valve are properly fastened. If they are in good condition, water could leak through a cracked section of the valve. In this case, you must replace the valve with a new one.

If it leaks water because of a faulty Water Filter:

Inspect the water filter for signs of damage. If the filter is relatively new, it’s likely that it was not installed correctly or that your water filter is incompatible with your Frigidaire model.

  1. Open your ice maker
  2. Check your slide-way
  3. Remove any debris
  4. Rotate the slide-way to test functionality
  5. Check back within 2 hours

Usually, frost build-up or a faulty magnet can cause the ice full light to stay on. If you think that the problem is a faulty magnet, for example, there’s a burr; you can file it down to fix the issue.

    • If you cannot hear the fan running on your ice maker, there may not be a need for any concern so long as the ice maker is doing its job. Are you facing any problems with your frigidaire ice maker?

  6. My ice maker will not stop making ice even after it is full. It has made so much that it has pushed open the lid and turned the ice into a large blob. I have tried to reset it, turned it off and on, wiped off the little sensor areas but nothing seems to work. Any ideas? Thanks

    • Is the Frigidaire Ice Maker “Ice Full” light illuminated? When the ice basket of the ice maker is reduced, and the lid of the machine closes, then it will automatically turn on ice making. If the ice melts in the machine it will get recycled back to ice, and if you just need some ice, try filling it with a small amount of water and turn off the machine just in time to stop making ice and transfer the ice to the refrigerator.

  7. My Frigidaire ice maker worked great at first. I have no idea how long, I haven’t been able to judge time since the pandemic started. So it quit. I opened it up and there was a 1/2 inch blanket of dust on the coils. I gently cleaned it, It worked like brand new for a short while. Now it makes about three cycles and stops making ice but the motor runs and it gets very hot. Suddenly, making ice the old way isn’t looking so bad. I just checked, I bought it in January, 2021, coming up on two years. So it quit working properly after eighteen months.

    • The motor will generate heat, which may cause the interface hose to loosen, resulting in water leakage. It is also possible that the water pipe inside the machine is aging.

    • 1) One possible reason is due to a malfunctioning control panel. And if the ice maker indicator lights are not working, you should check whether or not the power cord is properly connected to the power outlet.

      2) Another possible reason is that the ice maker may be overheating. Make sure that the machine is placed in a well-ventilated area and that there is enough space around it to allow for proper airflow.

      3) Inspecting the ice compartment of the ice maker is an important step in troubleshooting. Make sure that the ice bin is securely placed on the appliance and that it’s not blocked by any other items.

  10. My ice machine suddenly has started leaking and i suspect I’ve got a small hole in the water inlet tube behind the fan. I’ve managed to remove the old tube, however, I’m having issues installing the new one. What is the best way to do this without damaging the new line?? Thanks!

    • I think before replacing the pipes, try cleaning your machine, it is possible that there is scale, which is causing the water pressure to increase. If you want to replace the pipe, please pay attention to tighten the joint, and wait until the inside of the machine is completely dry before turning on the power.
